I sent this letter to the Herald like a comment to this article: MasterChef winner’s Euro break. On sunday, May 29th, was selected as letter of the week. If you didn’ t read it before here it is.
As a cook, I consider this a big joke, well it’s a tv show I understand, the problem is that this tv program create wrongly ideas about how to be a real professional cook in the new generation and maybe some lazy cooks who wants to take advantage of this behaviour.
She is just a cook or she likes to cook. but not because after a tv show you are a Master Chef (A chef is a person who cooks professionally for other people. Although over time the term has come to describe any person who cooks for a living, traditionally it refers to a highly skilled professional who is proficient in all aspects of food preparation. The word “chef” is borrowed (and shortened) from the French term chef de cuisine, the director or head of a kitchen).
At the end this kind of things are just for the money and not for the real feeling for love of food and real passion fir cooking. stop this big show and create something more positive. (first they need to learn that a stock doesnt come from a box from countdown, it has a preparation of more than 8 hrs…. they dont have time to do that on tv)
